Presentation Feedback

Following the feedback given after the pitch presentation, we decided that the theme of our game needed to change, as they felt that we didn’t sufficiently meet the brief, given that alcohol being illegal isn’t a very prevalent social topic.
We had a meeting to talk over a new topic, without giving up too many of the gameplay elements that we thought were good. Our first thought was to make the theme about drugs instead of alcohol, as the game components were more or less interchangeable, but it didn’t seem like the board game market had a place for a game where you play as drug dealers.
Another idea we played with was the dark web, playing as hackers trading in secrets, but we thought that the idea seemed like it didn’t translate to the gameplay, and we couldn’t think of a new game to make around the dark web.
Ultimately we settled on the idea of independence, following the referendum of Catalonia, the talk of Scottish independence, the continuing buzz around Brexit, the attempted independence of France and various countries, states, and districts seeking independence from wider political bodies.
The idea was to remove the money element and the different varieties of alcohol and replace them with four separate scores, each representing different ideas someone may have to support a bid for independence, morale, pride, economy, and leadership. These could be raised by drafting policies and enacting them.
A player’s score is equal to whichever of their scores is the lowest, and when it’s above 10 they can declare a bid for independence, if they are above 10 at the start of their next turn, there are 5 rounds remaining in the game and the other players have those turns to beat that player’s score.
